I finally gave in and decided to try my hand at a quadcopter… So far it’s proving challenging but I’m making progress! lol Read more for details and a video!
My friend Pat had a frame I liked that he’s also flying now, so I got one like it. It’s a DJI clone 450mm frame from RCTimer. I got mine in the combo with 30A ESCs and 1000kv motors.
For electronics, I had an Open Pilot CC board to use, and put a spare Dragon Link receiver on it. Video transmitter is a 500mW IRC 2.4GHz one, with a CP antenna. For now I’m using the GoPro’s live A/V out. Battery is a 5000mAh 3-cell. I went with 10×4.5 Gemfan props. The prop adapters included with the combo are giving me problems! They wobble and one has broken already, sending a prop into the ceiling… lol Thankfully it was just a test hover in the house and now flying up high. New adapters are on the way now!
Kevinv003 on the forums helped with the CC board tuning, thanks for that! It’s still got some tweaking to do but I’m flying! lol Once I get the props balanced with the new adapters I’ll try to dial everything in. Here’s a video from it:
Small Update… I’ve had issues with the prop adapters included with the combo. They wobble and one broke as I lifted into a hover! Others are reporting similar issues. I’d suggest planning ahead, and replace the adapters with a good collet type from the start! My combo came with RCTimer collets, and they also sell a bolt on type that another forum member says isn’t true and wobbles for him. One member suggests Eflight 1/8″ collet adapters. If you plan to replace them, look for either 1/8″ or 3.17/3.2mm type! Read more about it on FPVLAB.
